Žuti, mix, Hvar, Croatia • Žuti (Croatian for “yellow”) is one of several town dogs that can be seen strolling around the Hvar harbour unleashed at any point during the day. These dogs have a unique sense of independence and their playful antics add to the lively spirit of the town.
This is a project that I have been working on in my spare time for quite a while. During the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, several famous jewelry houses including Faberge and Cartier created naturalistic floral arrangements from fine jewelry materials - silver, gold, faceted gemstones, jade, quartz, etc. Being an avid gardener and general lover of plants, I became enamored with these beautiful works of art and wanted to try my hand at creating flowers that were more naturalistic than the ones I generally carve from wood and stone. I’ve been working on a Phalaenopsis orchid and I’m happy to say that after many revisions, I’ve settled on a shape that I am satisfied with. Don’t mind the plugs, they were not made for these inlays and are only placeholders.
I have more components of this in brass, and there are many options for center stones as well as the base plug material and shape. I would be particularly interested in doing a teardrop shape that mimics the shape of the flower, but that will only work in larger sizes.
If you would like realistic Phalaenopsis orchids in sizes from 22mm and up, email us at email@example.com or visit the contact page on the Onetribe website and send us an inquiry.
